Jensen
By the way Jared’s face practically lit up like a Christmas tree during the holiday season, Jensen assumed he’d said the right thing. He had a habit of basing his judgment and assessments of Jared’s thought process by his facial expressions rather than the words he said, but that was true with a lot of people. He always had been more attuned to body language then verbal language anyway. “Good.”
Even with just the simplest of touches, Jensen felt his body reacting to Jared with more of a rush then even he was even prepared for and he deepened the kiss, arms coming up to wrap around Jared’s waist as his hands slid up under his boyfriends shirt at his back, hands already itching to feel skin on skin even as the other boy moved until he was straddling his hips. He was already feeling the throbbing sensation between his legs, and Jared’s solid, heavy weight on top of him definitely wasn’t helping things.
“S’gonna be a tight squeeze-“ He chuckled huskily, heavy drawl lacing his words just from how low he’d spoke as his hands found their way around under Jared’s shirt, pushing up the taut skin of his stomach to his chest, tracing the lines he could feel hidden under the cotton of his shirt and he was pretty sure he was getting a little desperate to see and feel Jared’s skin now because Jensen found himself deepening the kiss, leaning up as his boyfriend pulled him in closer by his hair.
“You gonna stay up there?” Jensen smirked, cheeky for a moment that ended up turning into a blush that spread through his cheeks. He was getting there in the coy department but still had his moments. Licking his way again into Jared’s mouth, Jensen moaned into it, lips parted against Jared’s breathily as the other boys hips dug down into his and caused a shooting arrow of sensation to travel right up his body. “Think m’good with this plan,” Jensen uttered breathlessly, sitting up enough to pull off Jared’s shirt before ducking his head down to mouth along his neck, teeth catching and nipping at the skin he tasted, a grin pulling at the corner of his mouth the whole time.
Jared
As Jensen moved to take off Jared’s shirt, Jared caught on, lifting his arms to help discard the shirt. He closed his eyes as Jensen bit at his neck, breath heavy, mouth open, his own hands at the hem of Jensen’s shirt moving it up, needing to feel skin on skin.
Once it was off he let his hands wander down Jensen’s back, then moved back to his face, pulling him into a deep kiss before moving away completely. He grinned at Jensen and laughed lightly, against Jensen’s mouth as he moved to stand, “Lemme go grab some shit,” he pointed toward his room.
He came back moments later and tossed the stuff he’d grabbed onto one side of the couch. Looking right at Jensen, with a stupid smirk on his face, Jared moved the remainder of his clothes off his hips and down his thighs, stepping out of them and toward Jensen again. He licked his lips and kissed Jensen, leaning into him.
“M’all yours Jen,” he laughed, his fingers moving, once again, to Jensen’s jeans until he was pushing them down the other boy’s hips, smiling against his lips.
Jensen
“Hey –“ Jensen protested with a pout when Jared moved to stand, his hands instantly reaching out to pull Jared back to him before it clicked that he had to go get what they needed to do this at all from his room. He let him go reluctantly, huffing a laugh under his breath as he sat up and tugged off his shirt and kicked off his socks, body thrumming with anticipation.
By the time Jared got back, Jensen had gotten rid of all of his clothes except what covered his hips and legs, but he stilled his own attempt to get his jeans off as Jared stripped off the remainder of his clothes, reminding Jensen once again just what he had in a boyfriend. Lean muscle, defining lines along his abs and chest and Jensen grinned. It was all his, the very sentiment that Jared echoed a second later.
“Oh, don’t tell me that, it’s gonna start givin’ me a complex-“ He grinned, reaching up and pulling Jared over him once he pushed down his jeans. Jensen took the initiative and arched up his hips enough to shove down his boxers too, kicking them off his ankles once they were far enough down. “C’mere –“ Jensen ran his hand up into Jared’s hair, pulling his face towards his and licked his way into Jared’s mouth, teeth tugging on his bottom lip until he kissed him deep.
Jensen ran his hands down from Jared’s hair to grip at his waist, his hips, down to his thighs and back up his back, nails digging into his skin lightly as he tried to get a feel of all the skin he could. “M’gonna feel bad for anyone that sits on this couch after this…” he smirked, mouthing down along Jared’s jawline and biting down enough to make a light mark at the corner of it.

“Oh yeah? Anyone I know?” Jensen smiled a little bit, shyly ducking his head after a minute and leaned back into the couch cushions further, content to sit there. It made him think that maybe it was a good idea for him to actually live here with Jared, but the idea of taking that step was a little daunting. Jared was obviously open to it, very much so, considering he’d been the one to bring it up. Maybe it was the right move to make.
“If it’s okay, I had a thought… I could bring over some of my clothes tomorrow… just y’know, in case one night m’over here and need to head to school in the morning,” Jensen flashed Jared a hesitant smile, unsure if the offer for him moving in was still on the table in general. He didn’t want to leave his mother just yet, but this was at least a step in the direction Jared had asked offered earlier.
Once Jared’s voice dropped into something more cheeky, Jensen tilted his head a little bit and eyed his boyfriends smirk, looking around the house as he mentioned they still had a bit of ground to cover. It took a moment for that to click but it did once Jared added that the place needed proper christening. Jensen snorted a laugh, hardly able to return Jared’s kiss because of the amusement painting his lips. “Hmmm…” Jensen trailed off, flashing a lazy looking smirk, face thoughtful.
“What spot first?”
Jared
The mention of Jensen staying over sometimes made Jared’s stomach curl in the best way, he looked at him with what was probably a ridiculous smile and then bit his lip before nodding a little. “I’d like that,” he couldn’t hold back the smile even a little, dimples digging in so deep it almost hurt.
When Jensen returned the kiss, then smiled before commenting, Jared grinned back before kissing him deeply, moving over and clearing the way for himself to place a knee on either side of Jensen, straddling him. He pulled away briefly to look down at him, and looked thoughtful.
“How about,” he kissed the corner of his mouth, “Right here,” then the other corner, “And we’ll make our way around, I mean, we have the rest of the night.” He laughed under his breath, giddy and alright tight in his jeans. He kissed Jensen again, deeply, his hands moving to his boyfriend’s hair, pulling him closer, licking his way into Jensen’s mouth and humming into the kiss.
He ground his hips down into Jensen’s, seeking even the smallest amount of friction, then moved one hand from Jensen’s hair to the button of his jeans, smiling into the kiss.

Jared’s noise of disapproval had Jensen thinking that he’d have to rectify that kiss later but for right now, was okay with dragging it out for a while. However, once the food was done and Jared’s plate was made up, Jensen couldn’t stop himself from chuckling, head shaking slightly. “M’not spoiling you. Haven’t you heard of Southern Charm?” Jensen grinned a little bit to himself, ducking his head shyly for a minute. His ability to crack jokes had to be gaining some kind of an edge since his time in New York, and he liked to think that he’d lightened up at least a little bit. Even though he still took notice of the small things that made him want to fix… like the fact that the grout in Jared’s kitchen’s tile floor was unevenly colored.
As they settled on the couch and ate, Jensen rested his arms on top of Jared’s legs, resting his plate on top of them and chewing as he listened to his boyfriend talk. “I can come by at lunch somedays, s’okay,” Jensen nodded a little bit, trying to be reassuring before speaking up again. “Are you gonna come to graduation?” He asked, the question having formed in his mind days earlier when it’d been brought up by his mother. He knew he’d be getting more than enough tickets for the event when it came around in the next two months, and Jensen knew one thing for sure and that was that he wanted Jared there. If he wanted to be there, at least.
Jensen smiled a little bit, enjoying the feel of Jared’s kiss against the corner of his mouth as well as the solid weight of his boyfriend’s long legs over his lap. He never thought he’d need and enjoy the physical side of being in an relationship as much as he actually did but the small touches from Jared were never turned down. Not on Jensen’s end – he loved them too much. Like physical reassurances that Jared loved him. Jensen continued to eat until his plate was nearly clean and sat it down on the floor, looking over at Jared in time to see the peaceful look on his face. “Penny for your thoughts? Hell, I’ll even give you a nickel,” Jensen teased softly, resting his hand on one of Jared’s knees and rubbing his thumb into it.
Jared
“That’d be great,” Jared smiled when Jensen mentioned swinging by his work for lunches. When graduation was mentioned Jared nodded, “‘Course! Gen’d kill me if I didn’t go, plus a few other people, and I’ve kinda got a thing for this one guy,” he smiled at Jensen, “Gotta be there to see him graduate.”
Jared wasn’t upset about not graduating, no feelings of loss lingered, he was happy he was doing more for himself, trying to get out and do things rather than sit in a room and try to learn shit he wouldn’t even remember. If he wanted to go to school he’d get the things he needed before going to a class or two, nothing major.
Jensen’s voice broke the silence, and Jared opened one eye he’d had closed and smiled at him. “Thanks for the food,” he said, before sitting up a little more to look at Jensen more clearly. For a second he just looked, then his eyes moved around the apartment, scanning the empty space.
“You know,” his smile was only just starting to turn into something more of a smirk, “We still do have quite a bit of ground to cover,” he leaned in toward Jensen, his legs moving to the side and off the couch, “Place still needs proper christening.” He grinned, sharp and mischievous, then kissed Jensen lightly, waiting for him to catch on.

The sound of music playing grabbed Jensen’s attention away from the food he was watching sizzle in the pan and he glanced over his shoulder at the little iPod dock that Jared had turned on, giving him an appreciative nod at the choice of music. Their music tastes were enough alike that anything Jared picked would have sufficed and that it did. “I guess you-“ Jensen’s words were cut short the moment his boyfriend’s fingers slipped under the waistband of his jeans and he squirmed a little bit at the sensation, chuckling and twisting his hips away. “Y’start doin’ that then this stuff is gonna burn and you’re gonna have to flirt with that chick that works at the pizza place down the road for a free large or else we’re gonna starve…” he murmured under his breath, drawling his words lazily with a hint of amusement.
“B’sides – it’s almost done anyway,” he said, turning around to smile crookedly at Jared. “Beat you to the punch,” he chuckled, leaning in enough to lightly peck his lips against Jared’s that was in no way going to be enough to satisfy the perpetually horny teenagers, but Jensen figured being a tease without being a tease would play out in his favor later on. Donna wasn’t expecting him home until late, and Jensen had planned to milk that as much as he could. The week coming up was going to be hectic and busy on both their ends, and the last thing Jensen wanted to do was get into another fight with the other boy because of being over stressed. Instead, he wanted to enjoy time with his boyfriend for now, and ignore the rest of the week.
It only took a few more minutes for everything to finish cooking and Jensen grabbed two of the bowls that he found and dished up some of the stir fry and rice for both him and Jared. “Eat. There’s greens in it, it’s good for you,” Jensen teased and handed him a bowl. It didn’t take long for them both to get settled with their food and Jensen made a mental note to clean up everything later but flopped onto the only couch in the living area to eat first, sitting in a way so Jared’s legs could rest over his lap if he wanted. “You’re working the rest of the week, aren’t you?” Jensen asked, taking a bite of his food. He was going to make it a point to get to see Jared after school at least twice this week, even with homework. Or maybe get an off campus lunch so he could see the other boy then. Something.
Jared
When Jensen made his comment about Jared having to flirt his way through getting a pizza, he laughed and smiled into Jensen’s neck. Thank god he said the food was almost done, Jared’s arms were still around Jensen’s waist but as Jen turned toward him and kissed him Jared tried to deepen it, but Jensen’d pulled away. Jared made a small noise of disapproval in the back of his throat.
Once it was made clear that he wouldn’t be given a task and would end up in trouble if he kept antagonizing Jensen, as playful as it was, Jared wandered back over to the fridge, looking inside for no particular reason. A minute later, after he’d looked in every cabinet for the millionth time, and every drawer, the food was ready. He tried to help Jensen get it all but he got it himself and Jared held up his hands in defeat.
“Quit spoiling me,” Jared laughed, voice light, but it held a certain amount of sincerity. Jared made a face at Jensen when he told him to eat his greens and laughed, “Hey now I like healthy shit too,” he smiled and took a bite to prove it, on his way over to he old couch Jared had gone to pick up.
The invitation to drape his legs over Jensen was taken up, smiling at the comfort he felt in doing so as he bit into his food again. When Jensen asked if he was working Jared nodded, feeling a little put out about it.
“Yeah, but I get off at six on Tuesday, and then five on Thursday. I’m closing the rest of the week so I won’t be home til around ten or somethin’, maybe eleven,” he frowned a little. He was happy with working, happy with living alone, but it was still a pain in the ass that he didn’t get to see Jensen day in and day out.
He swallowed his bite of food then leaned over, and kissed the corner of his boyfriend’s mouth before falling back into his spot and continuing to eat. The silence wasn’t uncomfortable, close together like they’d been doing it for years, and Jared felt right at home. After a few minutes he’d finished his food, and sat, legs over Jensen’s lap, without saying a word, eyes falling shut, breathing deeply. Small smile on his lips.

Jensen
After crashing hard the previous night, tired from the party, Jensen had awoke rested and early. Most of the day had been dedicated to picking up his own home, clearing away the remnants of his birthday party and doing some of the extra credit work he’d picked up for his history course at school. The letter from Julliard still hadn’t come but Jensen knew not to expect it today so he’d headed over to Jared’s later for dinner, all the ingredients in hand for what he’d be cooking.
Now as the young man stood over the stove, Jensen was suddenly grateful to his mother for teaching him simple recipes or else he’d be failing at cooking vegetable and chicken stir fry. Jensen stirred the chicken, flipping the chunks over in the pan and then sidestepped to the counter, picking up the knife he’d laid there to continue chopping up vegetables that would gradually get added into the mix. He chuckled under his breath, nudging his elbow backwards against Jared playfully as he felt the kiss press to the back of his ear. “Hey s’not time for dessert yet,” Jensen teased with a laugh.
At Jared’s question, Jensen looked over and chuckled at the sight of his boyfriend, shaking his head and fighting the urge to tell the other teen to get a glass. “Nope, I’ve got it covered. I’m making dinner for you tonight, remember?” Jensen tossed a smile over his shoulder at Jared and finished chopping the last bits of the various vegetables before tossing them into the pan, watching them sizzle and sear. He stirred the rice that was boiling too, checking it before taking it off the burner and covering it so it could sit out.
“Mm-“ Jensen couldn’t stop the content hum in the back of his throat and leaned back slightly into Jared, smiling a bit again. “Try this,” Jensen used the spoon he was stirring the fry with and scooped up a bit of chicken and some of the vegetables, turning around in Jared’s arms and holding the spoon in front of his boyfriend’s mouth. “And tell me whatcha think.”
Jared
Happily resting his face in the crook of Jensen’s neck Jared smiled, watching the food being cooked in front of him until Jensen turned in his arms. He ‘hm’ed quietly then nodded at Jensen’s offer, blowing on the food lightly before taking the bite he was offered. He hummed as he chewed and nodded, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
“Mhm, it’s great,” he leaned in to kiss Jensen once he’d finished his bite, feeling completely at ease. A warm feeling filled him wondering if that was what it might be like, sure things would suck sometimes and not everything would always go well, but if that was what it would be like a lot of the time he couldn’t wait.
He pulled away, knowing Jensen was still cooking, then kissed his chin once before saying he’d be right back. He came back a minute later holding his iPod and a dock for it. After setting it up quickly he scrolled through his library before putting it on shuffle knowing ninety percent of it was stuff they mostly agreed on. It wasn’t too loud, so Jared could still hear the sizzling of the food in the pan, and his own voice speaking to Jensen.
“I know you’re cooking for me, but it’s not like I have anything else to do. Honestly, if you don’t let me help all I have to do is mess with you while you’re cooking,” Jared ran his fingertips under the band of Jensen’s jeans just to prove his point.

Jared
The party ended just how Jared hoped, both of them breathing heavily, sweat slicked and sated. Jared smiled and kissed Jensen goodbye for the night with another happy birthday before heading back to his new place, still getting used to it. They had made their plans for Jensen to go over the next evening for dinner and just hanging out, seeing the apartment in all it’s near emptiness, completely Jared’s.
He’d been there when things had started, but really it’d been so hectic that other than celebrating Jen’s birthday there just hadn’t been a lot of time. But there they were, and Jared stood in the small kitchen behind Jensen as they worked on dinner, kissing the spot behind Jen’s ear before wandering toward the second-hand fridge that he’d gotten from a friend of his mom’s.
The entire apartment consisted of his bed, dresser, one couch, a couple of folding chairs and a fold-away table. Nothing new or comfortable just then, but soon enough there’d be more. The carpet was beige and covered the entire residence aside from the bathroom and kitchen which had the same kind of tile in both. The air conditioner was old, as was the heater, but everything felt like it was his to Jared, and that was what was important. Sure, his parents were helping pay, but they were giving him another large bit of freedom, and he couldn’t be happier with it.
Jared stood by the fridge holding a two liter bottle of Coke in his hand, drinking straight from it, he set it back inside then spoke to Jensen.
“Need any help with anything babe?” He asked, enjoying how the last word rolled off his tongue. He grinned, dimples in his cheeks and warmth seeping off him, then walked back over to Jensen, just a quick three step distance to close in on him. He wrapped his arms around his boyfriend’s waist, hugging him to him and smiled into his shoulder, tempted to forget all about dinner in favor of christening the apartment properly.

JaredWhen Jason smiled and accepted Jared’s apology Jared smiled back, mood at least a little bit lighter knowing that this would make Jensen happy. He turned his head just a little to see Jensen and noticed Gen talking to him, for a second he wondered what she was telling him, but they’d become friends and it wasn’t his business.
“Thanks, man,” Jared smiled and nodded a little when Jason said he knew the feeling, in his own way.
Jared looked around the room and noticed his mom smile over at him, and then saw Jensen talking to his own mother before walking over to him. At the mention of cake Jared grinned, but really it had more to do with the way Jensen looked at him, he could make Jared smooth out with a single look, that time was no different.
After looking at Jason for another second, solidifying that they were good, before he walked over to get to the cake, rubbing his hands together. As the candles were lit Jared smiled at Jensen, next to him in front of the cake, and felt a warmth spread through him. Every first with Jensen made Jared feel one more puzzle piece fit together. Nothing was really perfect, but standing there with his boyfriend on his eighteenth birthday felt pretty close.
Everyone sang and once Jensen blew out his candles Jared didn’t even bother asking what he wished for. He only hoped he got it. “Happy birthday Jen,” Jared disregarded the parents and friends in the room momentarily as he scooped up a bit of frosting on his index finger and put it on Jensen’s bottom lip before kissing him, laughing as he did.
When he pulled away he grinned while cake was handed out. He bit into his and glanced over at the girls who were sitting close together, Gen’s legs on Danni’s lap. He leaned in behind Jensen, face in his neck, “I think it’s time for presents,” he grinned before playfully biting down on the skin that connected Jensen’s shoulder to his neck, knowing it would cause more of a reaction than anything. He was tempted to bite at his earlobe, but figured he’d have time for that later, and began to head toward the living room where several gifts were scattered around.
He sat next to Jen, and watched presents get handed over accordingly. Jared knew his parents had bought Jensen a gift card to a restaurant Jared mentioned Jen liked, and that Gen got him a 30 Seconds to Mars t-shirt. He wasn’t sure about Danni, Jensen’s family, or Jason, but he watched and smiled as his boyfriend opened each gift. He slid his over, bracelet and envelope with his sketch, still feeling a little self-conscious though Jensen gave him no reason to be.
“Like I said, if you don’t like it let me know, not a big deal,” his voice was cool and nonchalant, he meant it, he just knew he felt it wasn’t enough to begin with. “And we have to go for a walk soon enough so you can buy skin mags, and cigarettes.” Jared shot a grin over at Jensen’s mom so she knew he was teasing, seeing his own mom out of the corner of his eye he gave her to same smile, and then turned his attention back to Jensen.
Jensen
Everything seemed to calm down once everyone gathered around the cake, and it all became the atmosphere that Jensen had wanted for his birthday. He was surrounded by the people that he cared about in New York, and suddenly it really felt like he belonged there. Not in the country that he’d grown up and loved, but the city with these people, with Jared. Jensen flushed a little bit, biting his lip shyly as everyone sang ‘Happy Birthday’, Danneel doing her personal best to sing as off key as possible. It didn’t take a lot of thought for Jensen to know what he wanted to wish for, and he leaned down and blew out his candles, thinking it silently to himself the whole time.
As the group clapped, Jensen turned his attention towards Jared, hearing his voice over everyone else’s, or maybe he was just listening to him, and he smiled. Jensen laughed, attempting to push Jared away from him as he swiped frosting across his bottom lip, face reddening all the way up to his ears. But that didn’t sway the other boy and Jensen couldn’t stop himself from kissing him back and then pushing his mouth against the side of Jared’s face, rubbing whatever frosting was left after his skin with a boyish grin. He pulled back just in time to see his mother laughing, covering her mouth to hide her obvious amusement before she winked at her son and proceeded to cut the cake.
The last thing Jensen was prepared for however was Jared coming up behind him and using his teeth to hit a spot that had him shivering and biting his own lip to hold in a rather unmanly noise. “Yeah, yeah –“ Jensen chuckled, pushing his shoulder back against Jared playfully. After taking a seat in the living room with Jared, everyone else having spread out into a circle, Jensen took to opening the first of the presents. The card from Jared’s parents had him grinning, already deciding that he could use to take his mother out one night with Jared maybe, and the shirt from Gen was perfect, considering he hadn’t had the cash on him to get one at the concert they’d gone to.
Danni had gotten him a shirt also, one that had “Southern Comfort” printed across the chest and Jensen knew he’d have to make her pay for that one later considering his face had resumed it’s red hue and Jason had stuck with getting him some new picks and a new shoulder strap which Jensen appreciated. Donna on the other hand had given him a belt buckle that had been on her side of the family for a while, something won by her grandfather in a rodeo and Jensen had always been enthralled with the shiny silver buckle. He smiled at her, a little dumbfounded that she’d given it to him and she smiled right back at him, the silence enough between the two, and then he went on to Jared’s.
Jared’s present took Jensen by surprise, considering he’d thought he knew most that there was to know about his boyfriend but the drawing took him completely by surprise. Immediately Jensen slid on the bracelet, letting it lay among the couple that he wore on a daily basis before looking at the drawing again, tracing the lines of his own face that he recognized, surprised that Jared had paid so much attention to details when he didn’t. “Jared this is…” He murmured the words a little breathily, shaking his head. “This is amazing. Thank you.” The little moment tapered off a second later though and Jensen was laughing, shaking his head. “And lottery tickets.”
The rest of the party went by just as Jensen had wanted and everyone left a little while later, save for Jared and the girls whom all hung out in his room for a while longer. Danneel forced Jensen into his ‘Southern Comfort’ t-shirt and spent a while talking on his bed before the girls left, but not before Danneel hinted Jensen should enjoy the rest of his birthday with Jared, innuendo clear in her voice. It seemed the day hadn’t overused his ability to redden because he did yet again and let the girls out before turning to Jared, a small smile on his face. “Thanks for celebrating with me,” he murmured, tugging softly on the front of Jared’s shirt to pull him back into his bedroom. Donna had gone to bed earlier and was fast asleep by now, and Danneel was right about one thing – Jensen did want to spend the last few hours of his birthday with his boyfriend for a more private present.
“And your presents. They’re perfect, just like you-“ He smiled softer, arms winding around Jared’s waist. “You’re what I want for my birthday,” Jensen added, leaning into Jared’s ear as he walked backwards through his doorway. “Think I can unwrap you?” He nibbled on his ear, smiling coyly, innuendo obvious. He didn’t wait for Jared’s answer though because he knew it, and shut his bedroom door and locked it, eager to spend the last remaining hours of his 18th birthday the way he really wanted to – with just Jared.
JaredAt each of Jensen’s responses Jared nodded a little, distantly feeling Jensen rub his arm, look at him, and press his face into his neck, but mostly he just wanted to be done with that conversation. He felt awkward and insecure and he hated it, didn’t want to spotlight it anymore than it had to be.
He’d owed Jensen an apology for acting like a child, and he probably still owed Jason one, but he didn’t want his jealousy, or belief that Jensen was too good for him, to be focused on. It made him feel vulnerable and not like himself, independent and generally pleasant.
“Yeah, yeah okay,” Jared nodded again, his voice probably sounded a million miles away. He felt like he was starting to shut Jensen out, and he tried to force the feeling away, it shouldn’t happen on Jensen’s birthday of all days. He pulled back a little and smiled at Jensen, kissing him on the side of his head.
“Again,” he said close to Jensen’s ear, “I’m sorry. I love you too, and I do trust you,” He smiled again, then touched Jensen’s shoulder lightly before looking over at Jason before walking toward him in the other room, another look over his shoulder at Jensen.
“Hey man,” Jared shuffled a little uncomfortably, “Sorry about how I was acting just,” he waved his hand as if to say he was at a loss. “Things have been stressful lately and I shouldn’t’ve taken it out on you, even a little,” he gave him an apologetic smile.
He seemed like a nice guy, once Jared cleared his vision of images of him stealing Jensen away from him for some reason, and Jared was glad Jensen had made another friend in New York even though he’d had a bad way of showing it.
While he spoke to Jason, Gen approached Jensen.
“Hey,” she said, placing her hand on Jensen’s back, “There’s somethin’ New York has never witnessed before. Jared Padalecki feeling jealous and insecure, guess he’s human after all, hm?” She smiled, voice fond. “Just like no one can be a total wallflower, or completely anti-social, I guess no one can be constantly happy and not have a few hidden worries.” She looked at Jensen carefully.
“You also should know that while you may not see it, you are actually a catch. Jared recognizes it, and worries about it, doesn’t think he’s good enough. As great as you are, we both know that isn’t true, right?” She said it kindly, like it was a perfect compliment to them both.
“I’m sure you’ll both figure out a way to prove it. Just know it might take him a while to admit he’s gonna be upset about this sort of thing constantly, and not because he doesn’t trust you,” she hadn’t overheard that part of the conversation, but she knew the feeling. “He just doesn’t trust himself to be good enough for you,” she smiled sadly.
“I care about you a lot Jensen, wanna see you two stay together, not tryin’ to overstep or anything.” She squeezed his hand lightly before walking back to her girlfriend, and pulling her up from the couch to get food.
Jensen
“Jay…” Jensen began, soft and unsure. It was so odd nowadays when Jensen felt so uneasy, at least when it came to Jared. The other boy was the best thing he had in New York, and Jensen couldn’t imagine things any different now. But it seemed Jared had snapped back into what Jensen would call his usual self and he smiled softly, leaning into the kiss that Jensen pressed to the side of his head. “I know, it’s okay, don’t be sorry,” Jensen murmured to him before letting Jared go over towards Jason whom had come back in.
“Hey dude, don’t worry about it –“ Jason’s voice was still friendly, maybe a little unsure but overall accepting and it made Jensen let out a relieved breath. “I know that tune, man,” Jason laughed. It was nice to see Jared apologizing, but Jensen was even more happy to see that Jason obviously didn’t hold a grudge. That was the interaction he’d been hoping to see over the course of the day, and Jensen made a mental note to thank Jared more in depth later because the other boy deserved it.
Genevieve’s voice and soft hand on his back however brought Jensen out of his own thoughts and he smiled small while he rubbed at the nape of his neck, eyes still on Jared. “He’s still a superhero,” he murmured, jade orbs fixed on his boyfriend for another minute, subtly adoring, before he looked at Genevieve. “I didn’t want him to feel like that… I’d never… try to do that I just… didn’t.. know,” Jensen mumbled lamely, suddenly feeling a lot less intelligent then he actually was. He should just know this stuff, know exactly how Jared was feeling and what he was thinking. At least he thought he did, even though it was kind of unattainable.
The compliment took Jensen off guard and he shifted a little on his feet, unsure. “He’s better than me,” he nodded, believing that statement with everything in him and he figured Genevieve would agree. She knew Jared better than anyone, and she had to see all the good that Jared was just as a person. He needed and smiled a little bit at his friend, speaking up softly. “Thanks, Gen,” he nodded to her and watched her head back over to Danneel. At that moment, Donna came up and smiled, squeezing her son’s arm. “I think everyone’s ready for cake if you are, honey.” Jensen nodded and watched her leave to go get the cake from the fridge.
Jensen waited until Jared appeared done with Jason before heading over and wrapping his arms around Jared’s waist from behind, head moving to lean against his shoulder. “Sorry to interrupt but … Momma’s getting the cake if you guys want some,” he smiled and looked up at Jared, clearly communicating his adoration with a single look. “It’s chocolate.”
